JHU Comic Books (Staten Island)

One of the best comic book stores out there, period…the store has an amazing staff and two incredibly gracious and hardworking owners. They will showcase graphic novels outside of the mainstream and subject you to different viewpoints (such as Joe Sacco’s, whom another reviewer felt the need to whine about). I bought my first copy of Maus at their Manhattan location. I’m happy to see this store still thriving in today’s turbulent market.

Truly awesome! They have a wide variety of comics from DC, Marvel, Image comics, and other major publishers. The comic guys are very knowledgeable and have elite ball knowledge so you can trust what they say. You can place holds for books and order and pick up certain comics through calling which is great if you're stuck in the middle of the ocean but you want the new Ben 10 issue. Overall, AWESOME STORE!

My friend and I came here today. A staff member overheard us talking about comics, and heard me discuss how I feel overwhelmed in where to start with them as a beginner. He kindly walked us through the types of comics that would work for a beginner and we bought his suggestions. He was so helpful! Thanks for the great experience, I highly recommend this store. They have a great, curated selection and a welcome atmosphere.

I've been coming to this shop for years. In the heart of of New Dorp, surrounded by great restaurants and right next to one of the best libraries on the island, this shop always has the newest comics in stock. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. They are also big supporters of local artists, you can even find a local creators section in the shop. A great spot for fans young and old!

We have been loyal customers of this comic book store for many years, ever since we were kids. It’s been a place we’ve loved visiting, and now we bring our own children, who are huge fans of comics. However, during our most recent visit, we were deeply disappointed and shocked to see a prominent display of books at the front counter that push Palestinian propaganda. After flipping through these books, it was clear they were filled with misinformation and a distorted version of reality. What’s even more troubling is that there were no books offering a balanced perspective or representing the Israeli side of the story. It’s incredibly upsetting to see this kind of material being promoted in a place we once trusted, especially in a way that could influence and mislead children. We will not be returning to this store, and neither will our friends or family. It’s unacceptable for a local comic book store to push such biased and harmful content onto its customers, especially kids.
