I recently visited this store to purchase some Pokémon cards. The cards are kept behind the counter, so I used their in-store computer system to browse and select what I wanted. The system clearly displayed images of the specific cards, including one that showed a 1st Edition version. I ordered two cards based on those images. After purchasing, I immediately noticed that one of the cards was not a 1st Edition, despite the computer image indicating it was. I pointed this out right away at the counter before leaving the store and requested a refund. The staff acknowledged that the image on their system was incorrect but still refused to provide a refund. When I reluctantly asked about using store credit instead, they informed me I couldn't use it to buy any packs of Pokémon cards because "they are too volatile." This left me stuck with credit I can't use. This feels like a classic bait-and-switch. The store's own system misled me with inaccurate images, yet they take no responsibility for the error. Refusing both a refund and a logical use of store credit for the product category involved is poor customer service. I will not be shopping here again and would caution others to be extremely careful when relying on their computer system for purchases, especially with collectibles where edition and condition matter significantly. Extremely disappointed. Update: After posting this review, the owner contacted me and offered a refund. She acknowledged the employees handled my refund request illogically. Issues like this should be resolved on the spot, without needing a bad review to escalate. I am leaving this review posted as a warning to others.

Hello. I'm writing this review in response to recent reviews left behind by others. I have been visiting this shop for over 15 years and within that time, the owner and everyone that works there has only ever treated anyone and everyone with nothing but the utmost respect. I've been a witness to people coming into the shop and talk ill of it only to still be allowed to shop and play at the shop. I've seen people come in for casual play when there was already limited space, and the shop still did it's best to be as accommodating as they can. This shop has done nothing less than it's best to support all table-top game communities that are looking for a place to play. Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering (all formats), Pokemon, Lorcana, Riftbound, etc. You name it, they've tried to support it. I've even encountered people playing WarHammer 40,000 there. This shop is not perfect. I've spoken with any and all employees that have worked here. Like ANY job, there will be issues between employee/employer. One issue I've heard about is how little the owners are at the shop and that they are regularly watching the camera's. Like any business owner that own's multiple locations, you cannot expect to see them at a single location super regularly. It's also their right to protect their business by whatever means they see fit, even if it means watching through camera's at another location. Furthermore, like any other LGS, there is always things that a shop can do to better support it's player base regardless of how big or small a group may be. Like any other LGS, there is only so much a shop can do to support that community. Like any other LGS, their prices are affected by the third party market. This shop always does it's best to satisfy it's communities and to accommodate it's employees. But this goes both ways. As I've stated earlier, I've witnessed people tear down the shop and talk ill of it in the store. They were still welcomed in and accepted. I've witnessed people come in and try telling others to shop/play other places because "it's cheaper here" or there's "better prize support there", and still be allowed to stay. I've watched people spend an entire day at that shop, not buy anything, then leave, just to be welcomed back the next day without issue. I've witnessed parents bring their young children in and let them do whatever in the shop while they sit in the back and play games. The most that ever happens in those situations is that the employees request that the parent keep the child in the back with the parents. This shop has been nothing short of amazing to anyone and everyone in the more than 15 years I've been coming here. And I know that some of the people who have been leaving terrible reviews have been treated with nothing but respect and kindness since they started visiting the shop less than two years ago. Their one bad encounter should not immediately erase more than 15 years of great service, especially since it was mostly because of a misunderstanding. Regardless. If you want a place that will welcome you with open arms no matter who you are or what tabletop game you play, I will always recommend GameQuest.

I learn to play magic here as did my daughter! My daughter and I were welcomed into a happy little community! Yes some of there pricing is not great :( But the community is awesome!!! The owners would know this if they would pull up a chair and play a game or stop to look at things other than numbers. Many players come to multiple local locations and trade so the market is always flush with new trades. So we have endured the prices and the closed play area hours (cause they as the owners will not take the time themselves to make an area downstairs as an office) so they take the only play space available, for paying customers, and pretend that it’s a office. No me and my daughter were not kicked out per say, my daughter (who is with me as much as possible) is a child and was asked to “stay out of the front of the store “ No problem we could have done this if they simply asked us to. Instead they forced one of my daughters favorite employees ( and good friend )to remove my daughter from the front of the store because - what ever reason they will come up with as they try to smooth everything over with a comment (as you can see in every other post below this one)- My daughter was helpful and was liked by all employees hence being the only one behind the counter that wasn’t an employee!!! YOU DO NOT COME AT A CUSTOMER WITH YOUR COMPLAINTS (especially a little girl) AND A REAL OWNER WOULD HAVE TOLD HER EMPLOYEES AS A GROUP TO NOT LET PEOPLE UP FRONT OR BEHIND THE COUNTER (also it’s creepy that she watched all of this unfolding live on cameras while sitting at home!! Trust issues much) this whole situation is the owners fault due to poor judgment and could have been avoided by simply talking to me the father or giving employees a gentle reminder that NOBODY but employees are allowed behind the counter simple… this is the last the store will hear from me ( unfortunately) To employees and friends “my daughter and I are grateful for all of you accepting us in to your community( dare I say family) we will greatly miss you “ and “ none of this is your fault” If you see us please don’t hesitate to come over and say Hi other wise farewell GQ!! Yep my fault lol told you they would blame us

I moved to menomonie about 2 years ago and quickly became a regular at this store often coming 2 or 3 times a week to play. I learned to play mtg and met many of my closest friends here including some of the staff. At first I loved the store because of the friendly staff and open play time whenever there wasn't a scheduled event, but the longer I was there, the worse I realized the management was. As a newer player I bought a playmat for $25 and later that day the edges started to frey. My friend google image searched it and found it on Temu selling for $3. I was not happy because I thought I could trust the small local business to sell quality products. As of a couple months ago the store changed it's free play hours to be greatly reduced and recently they changed their hours to only during scheduled events. I am sad because it feels like I'm losing a second home but due to merchandise that is poor quality and overpriced plus lack of play space, I won't be returning. Edit: I heard about the hours change from multiple other customers that went into the store. Yes I did talk to an employee about the mat and other faulty products and they said there was nothing they could do about it.

I’ve been a regular at this shop for the past 18-ish months and I can no longer support this shop. The price increase on many magic packs is low-key diabolical. Selling alli-express/temu/blatant bootleg products at a hiked up price. The treatment of staff I’ve witnessed screamed power-hungry rather than a boss who cares. The pay? Was $8/hr but recently changed to $10/hr. The people who work there deserve better for all the work they do. Also kicking a father and his well-behaved daughter out of the shop because his kid was interacting with an employee?? Not to mention now the play space is for scheduled events only. Absolutely discouraging people from going there at all. Don’t go here. There’s better shops in the area. I hate to say it since I’ve met so many great people here and made a little community but I can’t support this power and money hungry behavior. They need to do better not only for their employees but the community and customers they’re trying to have.
