Battle Grounds Gaming Cafe

Great place to relax, play games, and spend time with friends. The staff are welcoming, cheerful, and always willing to help if you have questions about games, food, or the cafe itself. The atmosphere feels approachable even if you're new to modern board games or end up picking something with rules more complicated than expected. You'll survive the learning process… probably. 😅 I've been coming regularly with my gaming group for quite a while now. I used to attend a Sunday gathering before their schedule changed, and now we usually meet there on Saturdays. It's become one of my favorite recurring spots in Portland. The food is simple but good cafe fare. I originally fell in love with their creative fogs (tea lattes) like the huckleberry-themed ones, but these days I often gravitate toward the mochas. Their bagel sandwiches are solid too. Before coming here, I didn't even realize tea lattes extended beyond the classic London Fog. The pricing feels fair, especially considering how long you can comfortably stay and play. One of my favorite things about Battle Grounds is how it opened me up to board games beyond the handful I knew growing up. Games like Catan finally made sense to me as modern classics, and there's always something new on the shelves to discover.

I love checking out fun and nerdy businesses and if they have drinks or food, then it is a must visit. I called to see if they were dog friendly and they said they were so my boyfriend and I drove over with our two fur babies. Once we arrived inside, we were greeted warmly by the employees and they kindly instructed us to let them if we had any questions. My boyfriend and I first looked at their menu to see what they had and I love how their menu is themed! They also have lots of pastries both savory and sweet. I got their blackberry Faywild soda (their take on a Italian soda) and pumpkin pie macaron which was tart and delightful. My boyfriend got their white chocolate mocha was he was very pleased with, and he was browsing their TCGs and board games. They have plenty of tables and chairs to enjoy your drinks, snacks or to play board games. I cannot wait to come back to try out more of their offerings and to support a neat cafe that is dog friendly!

What a fun discovery! Generous selection of games of all varieties to play, delicious mocha cheesecake muffin (nicely heated up of course) and spacious, relaxed atmosphere. Even this old Gen X felt at home. Long may they prosper!

I stopped in for the first time with a friend to pick up RCCC tickets and grab a coffee. The barista was so nice and made the most delicious coffee with cinnamon that I've ever had in my life, as well as an amazing mint matcha! They also have a nice selection of tabletop games to purchase and a library if you want to try out games while you're there. The genderless bathrooms were really nice as well and have fun symbols on them. There are several tables throughout to chill and play games at. There are also some really cool laser cut wooden and acrylic card cases and crafted dice boxes, as well as miniatures and handmade dice. Will definitely be back again! The service was awesome! 😊

Super neat board game cafe - friendly staff, knowledgeable, and passionate. Play games, buy games, rent games. Cafe with coffee, tea, fun concoctions, bagels, pastries, cookies and some are vegan bagels, vegan pastries, and vegan cookies. Considerate folks curated a welcoming, collaborative atmosphere to hang out and enjoy. Highly recommend.
