Simple Merchant Coffee

Fantastic spot in Newport if you really appreciate quality coffee. They focus on great roasts and well-crafted drinks. ​The owner was working when we stopped by and was super friendly. He was actually experimenting with a new drink and let us try a sample. It was a really special, more clear coffee drink that was very delicious—not sure what he’ll call it once it’s on the menu. ​Definitely a great place!

If you want quality specify coffee this is your place. It’s the place that has small size and quality espresso. We got the shakerato that was small and filled with flavor. We also got the one with orange that was delicious. Friendly barista. The location is in a co working location that used to be an elementary school.

What a great place! The coffee (both drip and espresso-based) was outstanding, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the people were great. They have baked goods from Navad (if you haven't had their babkas, you are really missing out on something special) and some other food. We had good bagels with cream cheese. They also have a great selection of beans for those of us who like to make (and who obsess over) coffee at home. And all for very reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back!

One of the best coffee places I’ve been to in New England! Don’t miss it if you like specialty coffee and you’re anywhere near Newport. Simple Merchant has exceptional coffee, delightfully friendly staff, and great food. They make their own coffee syrups so I indulged in a sweetened latte (when in Rome…) and it was lovely. I also really enjoyed their shakerato and the experimental espresso they had available. I stopped by for breakfast another day and was a big fan of their bagels (high quality, fresh bagels and premium cream cheese) and the fact that they offer just egg as an option (it tastes better than the actual egg omelet in my opinion). I only wished a different side than potato chips was available, or even no side at all would be fine. Overall Simple Merchant was a wonderful experience all around and I would highly recommend it. It beats any other coffee place in the area by a wide margin.

Not many coffees make you feel validated for spending $7... But the honey cinnamon latte was great. Service was really sweet, and seemed like they had a lot of regulars. They'll give you a punch card to get a free late after 7 visits. Would recommend stopping in
