Prowess Gaming

Can only speak from the perspective of a mtg drafter and regarding the old location but Prowess was a great LGS when I lived in the area. A. Always had enough people to fire drafts B. Great prize support for all events be it commander, prerelease gauntlets, giveaways and drafting C. Solid community of friendly players and employees D. The owner can be a bit intimidating at first but a few interactions will show he really cares about the community he’s fostered Wish them the best

Haven’t seen a single review mention the “price stickers are for reference” sign that is so *clearly* advertised throughout the store and cases. Absolutely visit this establishment if you want uneducated scalpers to pull your original total out from under you like a rug! Who would ever shop a small business thinking they’re going to spend $200 and change, only to be told “sorry, since we don’t care to do the work we’re paid for, the sticker price is invalid and you owe us $400+ for this card”. Then we were followed out of the store instead of just taking the loss of the sale on the chin! What a bad taste. Stores like this are the reason false advertising is illegal.

Very high quality card shop. To be honest, I initially avoided this place due to the rare few reviews where people claimed they were mistreated. I later visited with my fiancé when she checked the place and said she liked the environment. I walked in looking for cards with her, and found that she was right. One: I enjoy the stock in that it has very good availability of older sealed product, alongside a large collection of individual cards to trade/buy. This store is better for collectors; less so for scalpers. Two: The staff to me were respectful, and both behind the displays offered assistance almost immediately to me and my fiancé, and they were patient as I retrieved her binder from my car. I traded in 3 first partner cards for their other set, and they compensated for the value/rarity at what I consider to be more than fair. I admittedly bought a lot of product, but I felt the prices were fair. After looking more in depth with other reviews… I find that people may see product as ‘overpriced’ when in reality it is hard to get sealed product in that condition depending on the age and allowing the vendor to make a profit. I overheard the person behind the counter politely explaining to someone who was newer to the hobby about individual card value, (as they wanted to trade) so I assume this is where the bad reviews may have come from? Additionally, the store was somewhat lively but not disruptive. There were people in the back playing on their own (Magic). I definitely recommend this store and so far the product that I bought has been good (have not opened all of it just yet) and I don’t have any complaints.

Prowess Gaming has been my go-to card shop for years now, and it’s easily one of my favorite places to hang out. The staff is always welcoming, the community is great, and there’s consistently a good atmosphere whether you’re there to play or just browse. They run events well and it’s a solid spot for anyone into trading card games. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

I really like this shop. I've been to a number of card shops along the coast in CT now and this is in my top 3. They have their cards inventoried online so it's easy to find what you're looking for. Very nice and friendly staff. The prices are sometimes a little outdated, but they're very open to meeting the market prices. Highly recommend a visit as a pokemon collector.
