New River Comics and Games

Idk why low reviews?!... my husband, son, and I came there today,and it was such a good store! We bought some loose cards today amd had the pleasure of meeting the coolest employee ever! Shout out to the worker that checked us out...we had a blast talking to you about pokemon!!! You are awsome!!!!

I would love to tell you more but the doors were locked and a sign saying the person was returning(presumably from lunch) said they would be back about a half hour before we even got there. Looked small and underwhelming from the large windows we could peer into.

I cannot say drive to Blacksburg Univerity Mall for comics and MTG more. Owner is nice, known him since I was a kid. However, this place started great when it was just him, now his employees show they don't care by sitting while speaking to you, with their arms over their head, laid back - some members of staff are nice but most feel friendly without being as professional. In terms of items they used to have tons of commander decks and comics and everything, now the store is bare with no commander decks at all, no packs I could see (didn't look hard), no apologies or offer to order it for me while the owner was talking with us both, and no recommendation on where to find the item. Also with comics, I've asked for comics to be ordered about 4 times and none have ever come in which has led me to never keeping up with comics ever because they'd miss my pull or they wouldn't order my missing comics (3 different people one being the owner twice). Finally they just have never provided great services - the first time I missed a order from them was in 2018 and the last one was in 2025. I will never be back and will never recommend them to anyone and will actively tell people to avoid also based on other reviews. Also, when I arrived I called before, figured they were busy with now answer - show up there 10min later there is no one playing, no customers, and two workers (one being the owner) so I cannot see why they couldn't or didn't answer.

This place is a joke. They never fulfill a pre order and always claim it’s WOTCs fault for allocation. My friends have to get the banks involved since he avoids refunds and contact in general. Seriously, walk in and stand at the register and watch how long it takes to get and help. They know you are there. 2 tons of fun in the back just sits there and takes up space. This “LGS” needs to be shut down.

I preordered a Final Fantasy collector’s box from this store and never received it due to supposed stocking issues—right when prices went up. They never contacted me about the problem. I reached out multiple times via phone and social media, but got zero response until I involved my bank to dispute the charge. Shockingly, they even pushed back against my bank despite the fact that I never received the product or a refund. To make matters worse, they posted misleading statements on their social media claiming they would resolve issues, which was completely untrue. Do not trust this place. Be very wary.
