I would give it a higher score as the employees are helpful. However today I went in for a pre-order pickup that was paid in full and got charged a 10% pickup fee. So I had to pay $6.99 to pickup something that I ALREADY PAID FOR.

We received exceptional customer service and care by Nicholi. He was exceptionally kind and patient as he guided us through Game Stop’s process of buying my son’s x boxes. Nicholi made certain we received the best deal in either in store credit or cash back. The Layton store was incredibly clean, organized and inviting. Excellent overall experience!

Store Employee Violates Policy by Taking High-Demand Card Boxes for Himself, before Customers EVER See Them!! Went to this location Tuesday, April 28th, looking for Topps Chrome Football boxes. Employee working tells me they’re currently out-of-stock, but will be getting 2 more Blaster Boxes on Friday, May 1st. I asked about pre-ordering them - she tells me these boxes are not available for pre-order due to the high demand, that this particular product was unable to ever be pre-ordered, going back to its announcement date, and that GameStop as a company is moving away from pre-orders. I confirm they open at 10 am on Friday, May 1st, and plan to stop by before opening. Friday, May 1st: I arrive 5 min before opening, and go stand in line (with me, 5 total people lined up at the door prior to store opening). The mother of the employee opening the store exits her car, announces herself as such, and asks if we’re here for anything in particular. Very strange. Male employee opens the door at 10:02, as everyone enters he announces “if you are here for Topps Chrome, I don’t have anything available aside from a couple of pre-orders” - for a product that CAN’T and never COULD be pre-ordered. He then tells us Target across the street was supposed to get some in, and he can check the Riverdale location to see if they got any in (he looks at his computer for a few seconds and ultimately says nothing, and begins helping the 1st customer in line, who was there to pickup some PSA graded cards. At Target, I see a couple of the other hopeful customers from GameStop - one informs me the store employee that open the shop consistently buys high demand products for himself before opening the store. I have also had another employee at this GameStop location complained to me about his coworker doing this, and that their coworker does this because he live streams on Whatnot - that employee also said that they reported this behavior to the company, yet GameStop has taken no action. After this experience, I talked to GameStop’s customer service to make them aware of the situation, but as the result of their investigation are kept private internally, I’m also posting this review publicly in the hopes that GameStop will actually do something regarding this situation.

GameStop in Layton has been my go-to spot for a while now, and overall, it holds up really well—especially compared to other locations in the area. The staff here has always been friendly and helpful without making you feel pressured to buy things you didn’t ask for. That’s something I really appreciate. Whether I’m picking up a new release, browsing for pre-owned gems, or trading in old games, I usually leave satisfied. The store itself is decently sized and well organized. The shelves are stocked with a solid mix of new and used games, accessories, consoles, and collectibles. I’ve walked in multiple times not really knowing what I wanted and ended up finding something cool just by wandering. They also tend to have better availability on newer releases and special editions than some of the busier mall locations. If you’re trying to avoid the long lines or chaotic energy of bigger stores, this location is a win. One of the best things about this store is the staff—they know their stuff. A few times, I’ve asked about compatibility between accessories or needed recommendations, and they actually took the time to break things down without rushing me or sounding annoyed. I’ve also seen them work with younger customers and parents who don’t know much about gaming, and they’re super patient and respectful, which is honestly refreshing. Overall, though, this GameStop consistently delivers. It feels like a proper neighborhood gaming spot where you can walk in, browse, and chat with people who actually care about games. It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable, and that’s what I look for. If they keep up the good service and maybe add a bit more energy and clarity around used items, they could easily hit five stars in my book.
