This business can be a little hard to find but is a really cool place to check out. The owner is helpful and friendly. It's definitely a hidden gem downtown.

We are here regularly for a gaming meetup and the staff is great, very helpful. It's a welcoming environment with no pressure to buy. They have nice tables and an excellent selection of board and tabletop games, dice, etc. plus some arcade games. A lot of people seem to be there for tabletop games and they host regular events for MtG, Pokemon, Warhammer, etc

Before Chance, this store was excellent, the best store for MTG in Iowa City. MTG players behind the counter working and gamers that love gaming. Then came Chance - a grade school teacher that wanted to treat adults as he treated his underage students. I think it is rather insufferable in the way they treat paying customers. I could spend $100 on singles and need a few cards added to the order and they will gas light you if they have to do any amount of work outside their order schedule. If they do manage to get the cards gathered, they will praise themselves and say it was "just this once". I can order cards two hours prior to FNM at First Turn and get my cards gathered with two people running the store, without the attitude. I returned a box of sleeves to get a refund - the lady working there tried to say I wouldn't get tax back. I had gotten the wrong sleeve color and wanted to swap but she said it had to be returned. Sorry, I don't allow stores to money launder my tax refund, so I made sure to get my tax back. Then they charged $3 more dollars for the other deck sleeves (online stores charge a $1 difference). On the way out, they didn't provide a receipt - no wonder I didn't get the receipt the first time around. At a recent RCQ, Chance decided to start the tournament 5 minutes before the actual start time, then proceeded to blame a person arriving just in time to sign up, requiring a new non-sanctioned event to be created to include this person. 11am start means 11am start, not 10:55am start and berate the player coming to the store. Honestly could have waited 20 more minutes - there is no rush in a single elimination RCQ. He charges more for credit interactions than cash, where the baseline he is charging for cash should be what is he is charging for credit. There is no cash discount - it's a credit increase. He refuses to use anything but paypal on his vendor store. Then there is the non-neutral stance on politics which honestly doesn't belong in any business trying to make money. The store itself looks great, and there are plenty of other people to interact with, but I have never particular enjoy interacting with the store themselves, and I find that a shame. I will only be back for RCQs and the occasional single purchase, but only if the other stores in the area don't have the cards in stock first - at least I can always get a bread garden cookie to make up for the joylessness of buying something from this store. Fyi, Chance banned me for this review, but not before allowing me to have a final transaction. One of the items in that transaction was supposed to be near mint, however the item was damaged. Chance only refunded me for the card, however did not refund me for the tax on the item. This is considered illegal in the state of Iowa, and his other employees have the same issue. Thankfully the PayPal resolution should assist in getting the remainder of the amount refunded.

Top tier local game store with friendly staff and great selection. Lots of TCG products especially magic (which they also have a great selection of singles online for). They also have warhammer and dnd products with designated war gaming tables. Very active local community of players in the area that meet up here and play.

Amazing place for all table gamers! Great selection of board games and the prices are very reasonable. The owner is super nice and knowledgeable on all games! They host card tournaments weekly too; the patrons are very friendly and welcoming as well. Would give 6 stars if I could!!
