Waterstones

I always come here and have never had any issues. However, on Saturday, I asked the cashier a simple question about a discount I saw on the app for a book, whether it was only valid if purchased through the app or if it could also be applied in-store. Instead of just answering the question, she gave me a condescending lecture about how the discount was app-only and that I should use the app next time to help keep the store afloat, otherwise they might have to close down due to losing money. All I did was ask a question. If she had simply said the discount couldn’t be applied in-store, I would’ve happily paid full price. I was honestly so shocked by the tone and response that I just paid and left without saying anything when I wasn’t even ready to pay yet — I only wanted clarification because I was planning to buy another book as well. I went to the Waterstones in the town centre to buy the second one instead.

Popped in 20/05/26 at around 3pm to pick a collection up I’d made for a book, unfortunately I didn’t get his name but I had a lovely chat with one man behind the till who was incredibly lovely and helpful giving me many new horror book recommendations to add to my ever growing pile. It honestly made my day and was by far the best experience I’ve ever had at Waterstones! He’s an absolute asset to the arc centre branch and made my afternoon and was incredibly touched by the knowledge and excitement he had for his love of horror books and recommending them to me!

Did not have what I was looking for but staff were very friendly and helpful.

This is a traditional book store that has a wide range of books which are displayed in two floors. There is a small coffee place on the first floor. The staff has been always very friendly and helpful. All in all, a quiet place to browse around & enjoy.

Lovely place. Friendly service. Good prices and deals. Nice to get a real book
