Disappointing visit to ACE Comics Southend. Only one staff member was present at the time and, unfortunately, they came across as disinterested, distant, and not at all engaging. I asked about certain items they had in stock, but rather than offering any real help, I was simply told to check their eBay store — which completely defeats the purpose of visiting a physical comic shop in the first place. The shop itself is fine in layout, but the lack of customer service left a sour taste. No recommendations, no attempt to engage in conversation, and no real atmosphere for comic fans looking to browse, chat, or discover something new. Sadly, I won’t be visiting again. Plenty of other comic shops offer better service, stock transparency, and a more welcoming experience.

Unfortunately, I had a pretty unpleasant experience at ACE Comics earlier today and won't be coming back ever again. I've come into the shop a fair few times over the past 10 years and have made purchases before, so I'm not some complete alien or unknown quantity - but today I was treated really poorly for no reason at all. While browsing through the 4 or 5 open top boxes of 50p comics which were all in a row, I eventually had looked through them all and then noticed another identical open top box just underneath them on the floor - so like any reasonable customer I reached down to continue browsing. As I touched the first comic in this other box, I heard a booming "NO!" from the man behind the desk (who I'm quite certain is the owner who runs the place). I took out one of my earphones and said, "What's that, mate?". The man/owner again loudly said "NO!" and held his nose aloft in the air, shaking his head backwards and forwards. I looked in disbelief as I tried to make sense of what was going on. He continued to shake his head before uttering the words, "That's NOT for touching!" I said (still in disbelief), "Oh...OK. Uh...Sorry." He then made some kind of muttered excuse about how he doesn't have any room anywhere else to put this box - - as if any of that is my responsibility or my fault, or that I could possibly know that ahead of time. If I was a 2 year old child in a nursery and this man was one of my teachers/child minders, I could understand - but the fact is that I was an adult customer and this was the owner of the business (or at the very least, the person representing the business at that moment). This man and I aren't close acquaintances or something to where such an interaction could be seen as some kind of friendly inside joke, so why he chooses to conduct his business in such a way I'll never understand. I won't be returning to the shop or buying anything from the eBay store ever again. I recommend that everyone do your comics shopping elsewhere.

Just down a side street from the main strip, this small but well stocked comic shop has all the latest releases you'd expect, plus some cheap back issues, figures, games and more.

Lovely place, the owner is super kind and so are all the players! If you're ever interested in playing YuGiOh, please, please check out this store! I started playing a month ago and I've had so much fun, if you're a new player I recommend speed duel as it's a lot quicker to learn.

Absolutely fantastic! I popped in there to get a couple of birthday presents for friends. There was so much choice I didn't know where to start and the friendly staff asked what I was after. Once I explained what my friends were into he picked out a couple of fantastic comics that they will love! If only all shops were this helpful.
